Some facts about Islam

Living in a multicultural society implies understading and respecting that different cultures have different languages, religions and customs. In relation to the history of our own country, we have surfed the internet to learn more about Islam in class today. Here you have a summary of  the key points we have found out.

Some facts about Islam:

1. The Koran (Qur’an) is the sacred text of Islam.
2. Muslims believe in one God, Allah.
3. Muhammad is their most important prophet.
4. Mecca is considered sacred by Muslims.  It is the birthplace of Muhammad.
5. Every  Muslim who can afford it must make the pilgrimage to Mecca at least once in his or her lifetime.
6. Muslims pray at five specific times towards the direction of Mecca each day. This practice is known as salat.
7. Fasting from food and drink must be performed from dawn to dusk during the month of Ramadan.
8. Muslims do not eat pork and do not drink alcohol.
